Our Team
Meet the experts behind Lab Belay
Ross Martin-Wells, PhD
CEO of Lab Belay. Ross brings extensive experience in laboratory operations with a background in precision metrology within atomic and molecular spectroscopic physics. With a career in both scientific research and business operations, Ross has dedicated his career to improving precision in labs and boardrooms.
Ross strongly believes in solving actual problems labs experience through better use of technology. We are not selling a product off the shelf, we are working constantly to address problems you need fixed. Technology is an adapatable tool whose purpose needs to be constantly refined to meet the needs of the user. Building precision environments is about getting details correct, and by changing the process to further improve methodology while minimizing uncertainty. Safety culture in the unknown frontier is a culture based on trust of the team having the data to make the right decisions quickly. Lab Belay is a biotech-focused platform that will allow you to use your time and resources on progress.

Jeff Berger, PhD
Jeffrey Berger is a Ph.D. theoretical physicist, where he worked on models of deep-inelastic nuclear scattering theory. Jeff is an industry leader in built-from-scratch applications, because he has done it. Since leaving academia thirteen years ago, Jeff has contributed at nearly every level of the software engineering industry based in NYC. During this time, he has worked at six different startups as developer, database team lead, site reliability engineer (SRE), director of architecture, and chief technology officer (CTO). In his previous two CTO positions he built a distributed calculation engine for executing large-scale statistical ML jobs at a quantitative hedge fun and was the founding engineer developing quantum-inspired algorithms that ran on both classical and quantum hardware.

Jack DeLoach
A full-stack staff software engineer with a broad base of experience in technical and managerial roles from data pipelines and development to security infrastructure. Has spent a career working and managing talented teams with a focus on infrastructure and embedded security in software and devices at such organizations as Stripe and Knewton in NYC, SF, and Denver.

The Lab Belay Team
Lab Belay is a platform of knowledge that aims to give each lab manager more time to support science. Operations are critical to scientific success, and we want you to make a precise environment that can work quickly because the granularity of due dates, regulation, and calibration can stop you from ever getting started. How many times have you gotten in early to handle an important experiment, and the instrument needs calibration, which sets you back three hours. Where is the procedure? Where is the manual? The manual is 379 pages? Lab Belay says: never miss a routine task, never spend time finding details you need, always be ready to ask the important questions. Our expert team will belay you to the pinnacles you are aiming for. We believe in providing service that is unconditional trust. Proven to be a winning team in the lab and in the mountains.
